Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting

Overview

This nationally recognised unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults. The unit applies to educators, teachers, family daycare educators, creche workers and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.

This unit of competency may contribute towards approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulations (2012). 

Specific licensing requirements

Including requirements for refresher training, should be obtained from the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) and/or relevant state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authority

Entry Requirements

As per the training package, there are no formal prerequisites required for you to enrol in HLTAID004 – Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting, however a sound understanding of the English language is a must. For this reason, applicants will be required to complete at the time of enrolment a short assessment to ascertain their language, literacy and numeracy level. At enrolment, each individual must have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) to study any qualification or short course in Australia. To create a USI please visit www.usi.gov.au 

Methods of Assessment

  • Assessment booklet completion (various activities)
  • Observations/simulation scenarios
  • Incident report writing
  • Learner-provided evidence
  • Supplementary oral questions (if required)

Unit Elements

  • Respond to an emergency situation
  • Apply appropriate emergency first aid procedures
  • Communicate details of the incident
  • Evaluate the incident and own performance

Course Details

Cost:  $160 per person
*The course fee is the maximum indicative fee and is subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment.
Duration:  One-day session

7hrs (excluding 0.5hr break)

Location: 

Courses are regularly held at the CTAS Training Room in Cannington

However, courses are also held at various locations North and South of the River
